Open GitHub links in a specific Chrome profile on Mac
Why give it its own rule
Many developers keep two GitHub accounts: one in the company organization with SSO and 2FA, and a personal one for side projects and open source. A pull request link clicked in an email or chat often lands in the browser signed in to the other account, and the private repo shows a 404 instead of the code.
How to set it up
- Install ChooseBrowser and pick it in System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Default web browser.
- In ChooseBrowser, add a rule for the hosts below and choose the browser and profile (profiles of Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi and Chromium need a one-time local setup in the app).
- From then on, these links open straight in that browser from any app; links without a rule show the picker.
Hosts to add
github.comgist.github.com
Split by path
github.com/your-company
In ChooseBrowser, add a rule for github.com and gist.github.com that opens your personal browser. Then add a path rule for github.com/your-company that opens the Chrome profile where your work account is signed in, so your organization's repos, issues and pull requests go to work while the rest of GitHub stays personal. If you also use gists for work, point gist.github.com at the work profile instead.
Check that it works
Open a pull request under github.com/your-company and confirm it lands in the work Chrome profile with your work avatar in the top-right corner, then open a public repo such as github.com/torvalds/linux and confirm it opens in your personal browser.
