Open Microsoft Teams links in a specific browser on Mac
Why give it its own rule
Microsoft runs two Teams services: teams.microsoft.com for work and school accounts, and teams.live.com for personal Microsoft accounts. A work meeting link opened in a browser signed in to your personal Microsoft account asks you to sign in again or drops you into the wrong organization.
How to set it up
- Install ChooseBrowser and pick it in System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Default web browser.
- In ChooseBrowser, add a rule for the hosts below and choose the browser and profile (profiles of Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi and Chromium need a one-time local setup in the app).
- From then on, these links open straight in that browser from any app; links without a rule show the picker.
Hosts to add
teams.microsoft.comteams.live.com
Add a rule for teams.microsoft.com that opens the Edge (or Chrome) profile signed in to your work Microsoft 365 account, and a separate rule for teams.live.com that opens your personal browser. The two hosts already split work from personal, so no path rule is needed. ChooseBrowser picks the browser for the page; if that page hands off to the Teams app, the app takes it from there.
Check that it works
Open a work meeting or chat link on teams.microsoft.com and confirm the work profile opens with your organization's name in the account menu; then open a teams.live.com link and confirm it goes to your personal browser.
