Cursor editor cache on Mac: safe to delete CachedData?

Safe to deleteRegenerated automatically; Thermo deletes it outright.

Quit first: Cursor

Where it is

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/Cache
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/CachedData
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/Code Cache
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/GPUCache
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/CachedExtensionVSIXs
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/logs
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/Crashpad
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.todesktop.230313mzl4w4u92
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.todesktop.230313mzl4w4u92.ShipIt

What it is

Cursor is a fork of VS Code, so it inherits VS Code's cache layout inside its Application Support folder: web and GPU caches, CachedData (compiled code for the editor), cached extension packages, logs and Crashpad crash reports. Its updater keeps files in ~/Library/Caches under a ToDesktop bundle ID rather than a Cursor-named folder.

Why it gets so big

Cursor ships updates often, and CachedData can keep entries from earlier versions. Extension installs and updates leave cached VSIX packages behind, and logs are written per window and session.

Is it safe to delete?

Yes. None of this is your settings, extensions or workspace state, which live in other folders. Cursor rebuilds these caches on its next launch, which may be a bit slower the first time. Quit Cursor before clearing.

Tip

The cryptic com.todesktop.230313mzl4w4u92 folder in ~/Library/Caches belongs to Cursor's updater. It isn't malware.
