Open YouTube links in a specific browser on Mac
Why give it its own rule
Video links turn up in work email, docs and chats, and opening them in your work profile plays them under your company Google account, mixing up recommendations and watch history. Most people want YouTube in their personal browser, with their own subscriptions and Premium.
How to set it up
- Install ChooseBrowser and pick it in System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Default web browser.
- In ChooseBrowser, add a rule for the hosts below and choose the browser and profile (profiles of Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi and Chromium need a one-time local setup in the app).
- From then on, these links open straight in that browser from any app; links without a rule show the picker.
Hosts to add
www.youtube.comyoutu.be
Add rules for www.youtube.com and youtu.be that open your personal browser or profile. youtu.be is the short form the Share button produces, so it needs its own rule or those links will show the picker.
Check that it works
Open a youtu.be share link and a full www.youtube.com/watch link and confirm both play in your personal browser under your own account; a docs.google.com link should still go to your work profile.
